ABC Apologizes for Steamy Football Intro.
What planet are TV executives living on? Have they no shame? We have naked women jumping into the arms of professional athletes as if it's common and a fun thing to do. Then we profess suprise and outrage when one of those athletes misunderstands a woman's attentions.
When the athlete claims "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did" you can understadn how he might make this mistake after seeing this so-called commercial. Reluctantly, I recomemdn you see the video of the commercial. Noli Irritare Leones had a perceptive post recently observing that norms tend to be set by the most sexually aggressive. She links to a shocking, yet commonplace, example to make her point.
There is a total lack of introspection on this subject. Take a look at this commercial. What message does it send to young girls? Young boys? I have worked decades to instill a "different" message in my children and I object that conduct depicted in this commerical is somehow the norm. The sexually aggressive people at the major television studios apparently think that near-rape is the sexual norm nowadays.
On days like this I fear the apocalypse is near.
I was amazed at the back-pedaling following that skit/promo, and I don't believe for one minute that those who participated, produced and authorized it thought it would NOT cause any controversy. Lucky for us, we don't watch NFL... the only pro-sport we watch on TV is soccer.
